The area

The house - The house is located right on the corner of the road through Ravenstonedale, adjacent from The Black Swan Hotel, restaurant and it’s garden. This 2 rosette, award winning establishment is a wonderful place to have next door! Go and enjoy their wonderful food in their newly renovated restaurants or bar, enjoy a pint in their beautiful pub area, courtyard or woodland, riverside garden. There is also the King’s Head down the road in the village itself and The Fat Lamb around 1 mile out towards Sedbergh.

The village - Ravenstonedale is a beautiful conservation village with lots of history, If you like a wonder around pick up one of the “A walk around Ravenstonedale” booklets and learn a little about the sock weaving heritage of the area as you explore. The village sports it’s own par 3, 9+9 hole golf course with an honesty box fee, a tennis court open for you to use and Gilbertine ruins to discover behind our beautiful church. Mostly, we’re sure you’ll notice the amazing scenery that surrounds us in The Howgills - it really is special.

Local amenities - Kirkby Stephen is our local town and it has everything you could need. It has a variety of small independent gift, craft and antique shops, cafes and restaurants, 3 takeaways (a Chinese, an Indian and a pizza/ kabab restaurant) which you can pick up from, L’al Nook bar, several pubs and some lovely spaces to spend the day and evening. Local taxis are available but should be pre-booked well in advance.

Further afield - We are surrounded by gorgeous towns and places to explore! The central lakes is 45 minutes drive - the perfect distance to enjoy a day out to the stunning area but not get stuck in its notorious traffic. The Durham Dales are an unspoiled area of outstanding natural beauty with Durham City an hour away from our door with it’s fantastic Cathedral. Barnard Castle, made famous by Dominic Cummings lockdown escapades, is 40 minutes drive and has a wonderful castle (as the name would suggest), a plethora of antiques shops and cute cafes as well as The Bowes Museum which is definitely worth a trip. The Yorkshire Dales encompass so many gorgeous towns such as Kirkby Lonsdale and Hawes for you to explore and purchase some Wensleydale cheese.
